Cody Ko is one of the youtubers I just recently started watching, but I have loved him since his Vine days. I was a huge fan of Vine until they sadly got rid of it, but Cody Ko had some of the best vines in my opinion. One could argue that he used the superiority theory in his vines by making fun of certain types of people, and he also used sarcasm a lot. I started watching his youtube videos after a friend suggested him and said that he was similar to other comedy youtubers I watch currently. His incorporation of sarcasm in his videos is truly what makes them so great, especially because I am a pretty sarcastic person, so I can relate to it. The videos he makes making fun of concepts, like the one that went with the post and one I watched making fun of Lele Pons are also hilarious. This is because most people may be afraid to speak out and do this, but he does this with ease. The video making fun of the 34-year old virgin was hilarious and I found myself constantly laughing at it and Cody’s comments. Your point of the video being an example of the benign violation theory is very accurate. I would not of initially thought of it as being that, but after reading your reasoning I think it is a perfect fit. Cody’s comments making fun of Skippy and pointing out his many flaws are a large violation and could seem threatening if not paired with the video itself. The video showing Skippy being super awkward around women is an example of benignness because he seems so innocent and does very cringy actions. The commentary really adds more depth to the video and I greatly enjoyed it. Cody Ko is probably one of the best comedy youtubers out there, and his videos making fun of people is a perfect example of the superiority theory of humor.

  1. I can definitely see it both ways: we could see that the innocence of Skippy almost makes it uncomfortable rather than funny. But it also might make it funnier.

  2. I can certainly see why you think that Skippy's awkwardness around women is an example of benign humor however it is interesting to think about whether or not Skippy's persona is benign or the fact that there is a show about a 34-year-old virgin which makes us uncomfortable being a violation. I personally did not see the benign violation theory in this video, but you make some very valid points.
